Classroom Training
The first step in our training program takes place in the classroom. Once you have completed the classroom training, you will progress onto shop and then finally, field training.
Classroom-based training comprises a basic welding class, designed to introduce students to the concepts of welding and provide them with some welding skills. Especially important is the safety and PPE knowledge covered during this phase. Classroom training also enables students to engage and interact with instructors and others on the course. To ensure a positive learning experience, instructors will also reshuffle students into different learning groups. This ensures every student is exposed to a variety of thinking and helps instructors identify those learners who would benefit from some one-to-one instruction time.
Classroom training includes:
- Safety in operating arc welding equipment
- Set-up and use of equipment
- Basic metallurgy of manganese steel
- Welding of carbon steel rails
- Welding procedures and techniques with wire and stick welding of track components
- Grinding and air arc gouging
- Problems arising from improper welding
All parts of the training must be completed.
